Internship – Senate Budget & Evaluation Office
 
The Senate Budget & Evaluation Office (SBEO) is looking for a part-time intern. Interns in this position will work with a SBEO analysts on budget development and related research assignments as well as provide some administrative support for the office. This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in budgeting and public finance and to develop expertise in a budget related policy area.

Responsibilities
:
  • Budget Development: Assist in the maintenance of budget development system for specified committee(s), including tracking the budget using the SBEO budget system. 
  • Budget Review and Evaluation: Understand programs within specified committees and how changes can impact programs as well as the purpose of each program. Collect data on key policy issues through news media, board meetings, legislative hearings, websites, etc. Assist in projects for senator requests or for consideration in the State budget.
  • Internal Operations: Answer phones, deliver mail, and other administrative duties as assigned.
Location: 208 Coverdell Legislative Office Building (across the street from the State Capitol)
Work Schedule: 20 hours per week, beginning as soon as possible

We are looking for applicants who can commit to staying in this position at least through the end of the calendar year in December, with the potential of extending through the legislative session into late March/early April.

Pay: $12 per hour

Minimum Requirements: Applicant must have experience with Microsoft Office suite of products.
We prefer applicants who have or are pursuing a degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, or Economics who want to gain experience working in a budget environment. Also, applicants need to have a working knowledge of budgeting concepts and terms, knowledge of and/or aptitude for understanding policy issues at the state level.
