Social Thought and Research (STAR) is an annual publication edited by graduate students at the University of Kansas. We have previously published papers in a range of subjects, including the research of leading social thinkers. Our journal seeks to publish current issues in sociological studies as well as interdisciplinary research. Students and faculty from departments outside the discipline of sociology (such as women’s studies, political science, anthropology, history, and American studies) are also encouraged to submit articles. Additionally, more general papers covering other topics of sociological interest are also invited.
STAR is published in Proquest's Social Science Journals, listed in EBSCO’s database, included in Sociological Abstracts with a direct link to KU Scholar Works, and will soon be available through JSTOR.
For Volume 32, in connection with Steven Epstein’s 2010 Carroll Clark Lectureship at the University of Kansas, titled “Science and Sex in the Bush Years: The Comparative Acceptability of Medical Technologies,” we especially invite work that explores the broad themes of Medical Sociology, Gender, and/or Technology. STAR also invites work that explores other topics, as well as book reviews, research notes, teaching articles, critical literature reviews (that contribute to scholarship), and other original research.
One $100 award will be given to the authors of the first place submission for Volume 32.
While submissions are accepted at any time, the deadline for submissions for Volume 32 is June 15, 2011. Submissions should include the following:
1. Cover letter and author contact information, including current e-mail address.
2. Cover page that lists the title of your submission, keywords, and a 200 word abstract.
3. Microsoft Word compatible electronic version of your submission sent as an email attachment to starjournal@ku.edu.
