The Career/Graduate School Golden Ticket

Posted by Admin On 11/02/2010
Are you a great student who is looking to graduate from Georgia Tech and move into a professional career or graduate school?  Did you do well in your classes?  Do some undergraduate research?  Have an internship?  Study abroad?

Guess what?  So did lots of other HTS majors!  How, you may ask, do you distinguish yourself from the pack, and why do you even need to?  Doesn't your resume speaker for itself?  Well, it might not, which is why you want people in higher places who can speak about you.

The stellar letter of recommendation is the "golden ticket" to jobs and advanced degrees, but you won't find one in a candy bar.  They come from faculty members, which requires some work on your end to foster those relationships.  Did great in my class?  So did 4 other HTS students.  What will make you stand out?  I suggest fostering relationships through one-on-one contact.  Go to talk to your professors!  Let them get to know you!  Talk about your interests!  Learn about their work!  We may know you as the student who got the highest A in our class, but we need more than that to write you that golden ticket....  So, start now.  Make an appointment.  Don't wait until that letter of recommendation is due, as it might be too late!
