Summer Employment in Field Research

Posted by Admin On 7/13/2010
Interested in gaining hands-on experience in conducting field-research?  Dr. Kathryn Yount of Emory University's Department of Sociology is seeking a work-study student to assist with a study of Arab Americans in greater Atlanta. The project examines Atlanta Arab immigrants' ideas on development, modernity, and family relations--a topic of keen interest among academicians and development practitioners alike.

The research assistant (RA) will be responsible for (a) recruiting participants for the interviews/focus groups, (b) setting up appointment times for the in-depth interviews at locations that are convenient for the RA and the participant, (c) conducting focus group discussions on themes similar to individual, structured interview, and (d) entering the interview data.

The RA's local knowledge and interests will come handy in recruiting subjects by searching out Atlanta locations where possible participants may congregate, making contact with leaders of those places/organizations, and establishing relationships. The RA will allocate approximately 45-60 minutes per interview.

If interested, please send your resume to Nafisa Halim via email to nhalim@emory.edu and please specify "Study of Arab Americans in greater Atlanta" in the subject line.

The review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
Emory is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
