A Portrait in Courage for Black History Month

Posted by Admin On 2/15/2010

I came across this photo in an e-mail from Spelman University and thought I'd share it.  Shirley Chisholm was the first black woman elected to the U.S. Congress (D- NY) and served from 1969 - 1983.  She was the first African American to run for president as a major party candidate, and was the first woman to run for the Democratic presidential nomination.  Chisholm died in 2005.  You can read more about this important figure in American history here: www.shirleychisholm.org.  You can even "Fan" her on Facebook!
