I came across this photo in an e-mail from Spelman University and thought I'd share it. Shirley Chisholm was the first black woman elected to the U.S. Congress (D- NY) and served from 1969 - 1983. She was the first African American to run for president as a major party candidate, and was the first woman to run for the Democratic presidential nomination. Chisholm died in 2005.
